ENERGY
STAR® labeled homes use 30% less
energy than the DOE Voluntary Residential Energy Efficiency
Rating Guidelines’ Reference House Based on 1993
Model Energy Code (MEC) requirements. A home built to
these levels would achieve a score of 86 under the Home
Energy Rating System.
The ENERGY STAR®
labeled home performance target can be met through and
combination of:
Envelope upgrades beyond the MEC requirements
Controlled air infiltration
Upgraded heating and air conditioning systems
Upgraded water heating equipment
To receive an ENERGY
STAR® label, the home must be verified
by an accredited, independent third party and shown to
meet the performance targets specific above.
